wait, what did i just watch

May 31, 2010

watanabe mayu was featured in a CM for the video game Xenoblade, a new entry from the Xeno series coming out for the wii.  i expected a normal CM with mayu dressed in a xeno-related costume endorsing the game, but what i saw was completely different.

freakin’ me out.

Classy Days

May 31, 2010

I really miss these days. The reasons I made the switch from Korean Music to J-Pop. People argue that Japan goes and copies other genres but I’d argue that the way they assimilate it into their own makes it uniquely theirs. For example this type of song, although originated in the States, no longer exists. The fact that it could be brought back in Japan is just hilarious. But what about now? Is there room for this kind of genre?

Where are the classy idols of today?

On that note, I miss Konno Asami.

science is fun

being an idol means you do a lot of work, just for entertainment’s sake. sometimes it means you take a pie to the face.  sometimes it means you make a fool of yourself.

and sometimes it means you roll a giant barrel drum full of milk down a snowy hill, trying to make ice cream.

“aisu camo~n!”

Momoiro Clover

Pretty energetic Girls I must say. I saw a live performance of them recently and was taken back by how much power and energy these girls put into their routine. Plus the song is catchy.

I will be keeping my eye on these girls.

SCANDAL: The Wasted Potential

May 30, 2010

When I first heard of SCANDAL, I was really intrigued. Yeah, sure they were an all girl band all wearing school uniforms. It’s not an entirely new idea. But they had promise to become a talented band, one thing idol groups lack. To fuse looks and visuals with actual musical prowess. Thing were in line to possibly line up.

Unfortunately, they didn’t. A few singles later, they’ve dropped off my radar. They’re not the Chatmonchy I wanted them to be. They’re still nice to look at. But the way their marketed to the public is completely wrong. They do some sort of weird choreography while playing, which makes no sense. And I guess management is trying to pass them of as sexual when they’re clearly not overtly that.

I’m not saying that they still aren’t listenable. The new single above is probably my favorite of theirs since Sakura Goodbye. But in terms of potential, I think it’s a waste. Here’s an example of what I mean. One of their earliest songs and probably still the best.

Now, I’ve got to do an analysis of Stereopony,

god knows A5 was my favorite akb stage.  they had their last performance this past thursday, on may 27th.  this marks the end of the old teams, the final nail in the coffin.  goodbye team A, you were the first team that i learned all the names of.  i still eagerly anticipate A6, new members and all.
