This is Why Tron is Hilarious

September 10, 2010

So Trons been going on about the new Momoiro Clover song CoCo Natsu. I’ve told him my side of the story as far as why I don’t think it’s as good a song as their first. In short, it’s catchy but they use Ko-Ko-Ko-Ko too many times. So as a prank, I found a download of the full version of the song which wasn’t supposed to be released yet and offered it to him. But before I send it, I edited the AKB48 Overture right at the most climactic point in the chorus.

This is the conversation that can came from those events.

paranoiareborn: i was gonna send you that song
a tron kun21: hmm? what song

paranoiareborn: but aol won’t let me transfer it
paranoiareborn: with the odd character
paranoiareborn: so i had to delete it out of the title
a tron kun21: ahh

french kiss: zutto mae kara PV

August 31, 2010

AKB48’s newest subunit ‘french kiss’, with members kashiwagi yuki, takajyo aki, and kuramochi asuka, are set to have their first single release on september 8th called ‘zutto mae kara’.

it’s clear why they would choose a name like ‘french kiss’ because from an outsider’s point of view it seems like two great words to put together, but i doubt they know what a french kiss actually means…or they figured most people in japan wouldn’t know.

the news of this group had been around for a while but i honestly haven’t been paying attention until i came across the PV.

i’m glad i did because this is a great song, and the PV adds the sappy drama we loved seeing in the old days.

kashiwagi has one of my favorite singing voices, so i’m glad she has a subunit to showcase it; and it was great to hear takajyo and kuramochi have plenty of solo lines.  their voices may not be as diverse as No3b’s but they compliment each other pretty well.

but their performing outfits, however…

i’m not a fan of the outdated, short poof skirts.  i wouldn’t mind if that fashion trend disappeared from idol-dom forever.  especially H!P (i’m looking at you s/mileage).

subway comparison

May 29, 2010

i’ve been living in manhattan for four years now, and i’ve become accustomed to how things work around here.  the way people shout across the street at each other, people power-walking through the crowded streets like a highway, the five sirens you hear inevitably everyday without fail no matter where you are, and the sense of immediacy you feel when you see hundreds of people carrying about their business as if they were each tasked with saving the world; but if there was one thing i could change about it, the condition of subways would be near the top of my list.

new york banks a lot from its urban grit; it does hold a certain charm and gives one a feeling of deep history, but subway stations smelling like garbage and death in the summer is something i feel does not need to be a new york experience.  it’s times like this i wish the metro would be more like korea and japan.

beto puri-zu part II

May 28, 2010

a clip from simpler times, when noro kayo and ohori megumi were the butt of ‘old hag’ jokes.

members beat each other over the head with giant pillars while balancing precariously above a sheer 4 foot drop, prefaced by battle of trash talking.  so naturally, miho is participating.

The way of the Wota

May 25, 2010

The Wota culture is something that most casual fans of Idol groups don’t usually know about. They are the driving force of  an Idol group and its usually up to the wotas to see if their favorite Idol group sinks or swims in the music industry. If you people ever watch a live concert of AKB or Morning Musume, you might be hearing loud Japanese men screaming out their favorite member’s name while wearing their favorite members colors (see picture above) and waving glowsticks around. Thats a wota.

Now more of a detailed summary of what a wota is thanks to wikipedia-

“Wotagei or otagei (ヲタ芸 or オタ芸?) refers to a type of dancing and cheering gestures performed by wota, fans of Japanese idol singers (and thus seen as Akiba-kei), involving jumping, clapping, arm-waving and chanting slogans. Wotagei is performed at concerts, or at events such as anime and manga conventions and meetings of idol fan groups, and it is thought to have developed from the ōendan, organised cheering squads common at sporting events in Japan. Wotagei is particularly associated with fans of Hello! Project and AKB48 idols, as well as fans of anime seiyū (voice actresses), who often perform theme songs for the series in which they appear.”
